A&WMA's Conference

Students: Get Ready for A&WMA's 102nd Annual Conference & Exhibition! http://www.awma.org/ACE2009/index.html?src=mailing_student101108

A&WMA's Annual Conference & Exhibition (ACE) is the premier education, networking, and solutions event for environmental professionals and students looking to pursue a career in the environmental industry. ACE provides students with the opportunity to network and share ideas with both seasoned and young professionals and to participate in the global conversation on the environment.

ACE 2009 offers many valuable events for students including career presentations, professional development courses, the chapter exchange luncheon, resume critiques, an oral presentation skills workshop, and social events including a kayaking trip.

Students also have many opportunities to win awards at ACE. Masters and Doctoral students can participate in the Platform Paper Award program , the Student Poster Contest , and be nominated for the Masters and Doctoral Thesis Awards .

Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral students can build their professional portfolios and win great prizes by participating in the Environmental Challenge International (ECi), a team competition that asks students to develop a multi-disciplinary solution to a "real-life" environmental issue. ECi participants may also be able to arrange independent research credit with their college advisor.

Need assistance funding your trip? Work as a session monitor and receive discounted conference rates.

PowerVote!

Let's get excited about this. Anyone want to be the contact person/organizer from our group?

Power Vote is a nonpartisan campaign of the Energy Action Coalition, the same folks that brought you Power Shift 2007 and the Campus Climate Challenge, to build youth power and demand bold solutions to global warming during the election season and beyond!

http://PowerVote.org

We all know that 2008 is a pivotal election year, and that everyone is abuzz with the national election. Together, we can use Power Vote to build up your group, develop new leaders and put extra power behind what you’re working on, while connecting to the national movement. And, we’re not going to stop at the election. We’re going to hold our newly elected leaders accountable by hosting Power Shift 2009 during the first 100 days in Washington DC. Power Shift 2009 will be a conference of historic magnitude, and bring together thousands of people to hold our leaders accountable and demand immediate solutions. With your help, our numbers and presence will be huge!

Daylight Savings Time!

In case you actually look at the website for meeting times, you should know that all the meetings have suddenly switched from 7:30 - 8:30 to being from 9:30 to 10:30. That is not the case, and the sudden change likely has something to do with the wonkiness that is the new DST issues that are runnig rampant. So...just know, the meetings are always at 7:30, and we send reminders. So get on the list by joining the website!

College Sustainability Report Card Released

The Sustainable Endowment Institute’s new College Sustainability Report Card is being released today and there is quite a buzz in the press.

The Report Card examines and grades 100 schools across the United States and Canada on criteria including climate change policies, green building, and investment practices.

Schools are assessed in seven main categories and given a letter grade of “A” to “F” for each category. The grades are then calculated into a GPA on a 4.0 scale and an overall grade is determined based on that GPA.

You can grab all the info here!
